C. A. Donehoo Elementary is located in Gadsden, Alabama. The school was built in 1950 to serve grades one through six. Since 1977 the school has served kindergarten through grade five. C. A. Donehoo is a Title I school.
Professional and Support Staff
The full-time professional staff consists of a principal, thirteen classroom teachers, one special education teacher, a guidance counselor, media specialist and an intervention/parent liaison teacher.The part-time professional staff consists of a social worker, music/strings teacher, art teacher, English Language Learners teacher instructional aide, speech pathologist, and a nurse. Other full-time support staff includes a secretary. The custodial staff employs two full-time janitors. The lunchroom program employs one full-time CNA manager and CNA workers. In 2017, 6 of our certified teachers were awarded a grant to further their education and began working on earning a masters degree in Teaching English Language Learners. These teachers are projected to complete their continuing education in the Summer of 2019 at The University of Alabama in Birmingham.
The Gadsden City School District is located in Gadsden, Alabama with a population 37,000. The system is located in the northeast corner of the state, on the Coosa River. Gadsden City Schools (GCS) has a strong reputation for providing excellence in education since 1889. The system promotes diversity and academic achievement, athletics, and co-curricular activities throughout the elementary, middle and secondary programs. Students are provided opportunities to reach their potential with varied instructional programs at all schools.
